Hybrids are the fruit of a rare joint project between the Big Three, first revealed to the public in June 2060, and represent the pinnacle of genegineering. Crafted from human and animal DNA, hybrids are a viable subspecies and now form a sizable minority.
Hybrids are referred to as either “lab-born” or “street-born,” referring to whether they were decanted in a corporate lab or born naturally. Lab-born hybrids are considered corporate property. Their offspring, however, are free citizens unless requests are sent through specific legal channels. Lab-born hybrids all display unusual coloration as a way of setting them apart.
There are many slang terms for hybrids; the most common unoffensive term is to call them splices. Calling a hybrid a feral, thanks to the legacy of the Den, is an incredibly offensive slur. People who think they’re being clever tend to refer to hybrids as Moreaus.
